The Habits of Heart

The Habits of Heart are a set of emotional dispositions which when explicitly taught, allow students to understand their own and others' emotional intelligence.

Teaching students to think intellectually should also include teaching them to think about their emotional intelligence.  As students work more and more with technology, we need to take time to purposefully teach them what their emotions are, how they can recognise them and how they connect us together.

When asking for accurate academic work from students, we can also ask:  Is it fair and ethical?  Is it good?  Is it truthful?  Is it beautiful? How might it unite and not divide?

The Habits of Heart are each accommanied by an icon specifically designed to reflect the habit.  This makes it eaiser for young people to remember them and assist as visual cues for learning.
